OUR FARM

In the beginning there was corn and it was good. It all began in 1998 when Paul, wanted to grow sweet corn like he did as a teenager. Our first customers found our corn in a bathtub in our corncrib turned garage with a peanut butter money jar for self-service. That first year we sold over 500 dozen and Detwiler Veggie Farm was established. |

In 2004 we expanded to include Mitchell’s farm in Plain City, which is part of Shelly’s family farm that has been in the family for almost 200 years. In the spring of 2005 we planted more than 2500 raspberries by hand on almost 3 acres. The black varieties of Mac Black and Jewell were planted in plastic covered beds to decrease our use of chemical weed control. Between the rows are five foot grass covered aisles. Drip irrigation is installed beneath the beds and used to provide adequate water and nutrients to the berries. Besides berries, the Detwilers grow sweet corn, pumpkins, gourds, red peppers, edamame soybeans and green beans. |

"Our family loves sharing our agricultural roots with others. Depending on the spring weather conditions our berries will begin to ripen the last week of June thru mid-July. Caroline, our fall red variety, peaks in early-September through frost. We hope you’ll 'Come taste the difference!' " -Paul, Shelly, Jake, and Luke Detwiler |
